Gyan Abhiyan

(e-Library in Rural Areas)

India’s first e-library in a rural area was dedicated to people at Bharokha village in District Sirsa on August 15, 2013.

The e-Libraries are being set up in the rural regions of the District through ‘Gyan Abhiyan Pariyojana’ under Backward Regions Grant Fund Scheme of Haryana Government and the authorities have named the e-libraries project as “Gyan Abhiyan”.

The authorities have a plan to set up e-Libraries in 50 villages of District Sirsa in the first phase, where Bharat Nirman Rajiv Gandhi Sewa Kendras have already been set up and would be taken up in all 333 villages of District Sirsa in a phased manner.

Approximately 1000 books in Hindi, Punjabi and English languages are being made available in each rural e-Library. Further, the digital material viz., audio-video CDs and DVDs related to science, mathematics, geography and other subjects are also being made available in these e-Libraries.

The computers are being linked with internet in each rural e-library so that e-readers could reap the actual benefits by referring to e-magazines and encyclopaedia.
